"For the past few years, we have been thinking about and researching alternative packaging. Cans are popular, but we don’t drink wine from cans ourselves and environmentally, it is hard to make a case for them being better than glass bottles. Wine in kegs which we have been doing for over a decade now has always made sense to us because of the clear eco benefits, but it is a format that only works for restaurants and bars. When we revisited the idea of bag in box this year, it made immediate sense. We knew that it was the alternative package that would fit with what we do and our business ethics. Versus bottles or cans, BIBs use less energy and cost less to produce, transport, store, and consume. The bags are also better than they used to be at protecting the wine with much lower oxygen transmission rates than the earlier BIB days. They also stay fresh longer than bottles because the bag compresses as it empties reducing the amount of air the wine is exposed to.
The FOLK MACHINE B.Y.O.B red blend is 42% Carignane, 18% Petite Sirah, 15% Zinfandel, 15% Syrah, and 10% Tempranillo. Each lot was fermented separately, aged in combination of stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, and blended in the Spring. The end result is a mid-weight easy drinking, fun red that is juicy, fresh, and all-purpose."-Kenny
The Folk Machine was created in 2005 to primarily be a home for Pinot Noir, but is now also the main venue for our more esoteric line of wines.
