60% Grenache, 40% Syrah
Fruit savage is an aptly cheeky way to describe this sultry, plummy blend of Grenache and Syrah. Whiffs of licorice, garrigue and black pepper shavings extend into a luscious cassis palate. It's richly textured but anchored by a twist of sour cherry and firm, gripping tannins.
Organic for 30 years: natural manure, handpicked grapes, wild yeasts, macerations of several months and no filtration or fining. These organic wines have received many awards and critical acclaim from Jancis Robinson, Jeb Dunnuck, Challenge Millesime Bio, RVF, Gilbert&Gaillard and the Concours des Vignerons Indépendants in Paris.
The 50 acre estate lies along the slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail overlooking the Rhone Valley, at an altitude of 650 feet above sea level – the highest altitude for Vacqueyras vines. The vineyard is also naturally isolated into a single plot, making the location protected from the Mediterranean environment and ideally suited for organic viticulture.
Red clay limestone and famous galets roules impart a terrific intensity and depth to the Fruits Sauvage. The grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in cement vats using indigenous yeasts. Towards November or December malolactic fermentation takes place naturally. The wine was then raised cement tanks for 18 months. The domaine works the soils organically, with no added herbicides or pesticides. Annually all vine clippings are ploughed back in between rows to enrich the soils. Yields are meticulously restricted.
