Mendocino County. This is a different grape mix versus the 2019 with 42% Carbonic Merlot: Cole Ranch & 18% Carbonic Cabernet: Cole Ranch with 40% Mix Grenache from Mendocino County. The Carbonic style comes through here with bright red berry, raspberry, garrigue, savory herbs, and some crushed rocks. The palate is moderate in weight with more moderate acid versus the 2019 with soft cranberry, cherry, some spice, and crushed rocks. D&M Tasting Notes
It's Yum! Nuff said.

Both the Merlot and cabernet were picked straight into small fermenters in the vineyard. We sorted the fruit as it was going into their fermentation vessels and left as whole cluster. Once brought into the cellar, we added Co2 in the form of dry ice to the tank and sealed the best way possible. For the next few days (or however long it took for the fermentation to kick off and produce its own Co2), we kept adding dry ice to the fermenters to keep it anaerobic. Each fermentation lasted 20 day until pressed off. Once pressed off, we settled the wine and racked to their own vessels. The Cabernet went to barrel, 50% of the Merlot went to egg shaped tanks and the other 50% to barrel.
The Grenache is a bulk purchase from a friend of mine in Mendocino county. Winery Notes
Rootdown was started by winemaker/owner Mike Lucia in 2014 initially as a rose-focused brand but has since grown to produce rose, white, and red. Mike got his start in wine at a very early age growing up in Healdsburg in Sonoma. After working for producers such as Ridge and earning a viticulture degree from Fresno State, Mike became the assistant winemaker at Copain in 2010. He oversaw the Tous Ensemble program and oversaw most aspects of day to day winemaking. Upon Copain’s sale to Kendall Jackson, Mike is now able to fully focus on Rootdown. Considered one of the most talented young winemakers in California, Rootdown is a label to watch.
